Lachlan’s first iRacing experience

iRacing is probably the closest thing that I can find to actually re-living the racing days and is certainly a heap cheaper. It’s also the only place a four year old can race an IndyCar! I shot this while my son Lachlan had his very first iRacing experience and not really too surprisingly, he wasn’t half bad at it considering he’s already been playing rFactor and Live for Speed.

This also shows our triple screen Matrox setup with a Logitech G25. The three screens give a peripheral view of the car which is fantastic when overtaking, or being overtaken, certainly leads to less contact.

Real Driving Simulators: LFS vs rFactor

I’ve been using Live For Speed for about 5 years now and have never found another driving game/simulator that has ever gotten close when it comes to the actual driving experience.

I tried rFactor about 12 months ago and didn’t really think that much of it, although I did think about how long it took to get LFS working with the wheel setup, force feedback bla bla. So I gave it another go this week and initially I thought the same, but then I spent the time setting the G25 up right, and it wasn’t until I started downloading some more content that it came to life.

Then I downloaded Oran Park and then as soon as I hit this;

I was in!! The Oran Park dog leg, one of the greatest corners in the country and now that it is gone to the progress of residential housing gods I am very happy to know I can relive my old Sports Sedan days through rFactor.

I still put LFS at the top when it comes to the realism of driving, but rFactor is very very close but has the added benefit of relatable content.

LFS gets a real track, Rockingham

LFS has been around for years and I have been using it since June 2004, and I have never found a better driving simulator. In fact, I have never experienced one that was even close!

I have recently tested out Need For Speed Shift and although it is very good, and it is also aimed at more the driving experience rather than the arcade style game, but I would certainly still class it as a game. Where as Live For Speed is most certainly a simulator rather than a game.

LFS is that good that you can feel an individual wheel locking through the steering wheel feedback if your using a G25 or G27. Even beyond that, LFS has released news that the new version to some has a whole new tyre physics model, how many simulators/games out there have a tyre physics model, let alone one that complicated.

If you want the real feel of racing, away from the track, get yourself a Logitech G27 or even a second hand G25 and get into LFS!!

More details on the Rockingham update.

LAME! Could this be the worst EDM ever?

Could this be the lamest EDM I have ever received? At the very least check your copy for grammar and spelling, “We’ve an Aston Martin…”! You’ve what an Aston Martin? Fuelled it up with a tank of lame?

Why is it that producers, I’m assuming there was not a copywriter involved here, feel the need turn an EDM into a personal conversation. People get that these emails are sent to a shitload of people, don’t patronise the reader.
